About Mike Pniewski

Lucas County Engineer

Mike is currently the Lucas County Engineer after serving as the Chief Deputy Lucas County Engineer for almost three years. Mike has worked as a Professional Engineer and Surveyor in the public and private sectors for over 20 years across the United States. He and his wife Melissa have resided in the Toledo area for the past 10 years and make the Old Orchard neighborhood of Toledo their home. Mike has previously served as the Western Lake Erie Basin Program Manager for the Buffalo District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in addition to serving in positions in the private sector in Arizona and the Detroit area.

Mike is a leader for infrastructure in Northwest Ohio and currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Transportation Council for the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, Vice-Chair of the Maumee Area of Concern Advisory Committee, Chairman of the Ohio Public Works Commission District 12 Integrating Committee, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Lucas County Transportation Improvement District. Mike also serves as a Commissioner on the Lucas County Plan Commission.

Mike also teaches Civil Engineering and Land Surveying to tomorrow's engineers by serving as an Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Toledo and has been selected by his peers to serve as a Program Evaluator of Civil Engineering and Civil Engineering Technology degree programs by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. He also served as Past President of the Toledo Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and is currently Secretary of the Ohio Council of Sections for the ASCE and a member of the Society Committee on Student Members for ASCE. Mike was also recognized as Civil Engineer of the Year for 2018 by the Toledo Section.

Mike graduated with a Bachelor and Master of Science in Civil Engineer from the University of Michigan. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Land Surveying from Michigan Technological University and a Master of Business Administration from Bowling Green State University. Mike is also a graduate of the intensive Future Leaders Management Training Certificate program provided by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).
